Aiea is a small city and a census designated place in Hawaii. It is a population of about 9338 as per the census of 2010.  The name “Aiea” came from a plant species Nothocestrum latifolium (known as broadleaf ‘aiea) which is commonly found in that place. This place was used mostly for sugarcane plantation in the 19th century. The plantation was shut down in after the second world war and the mill here was converted into a sugar refinery. Former sugarcane fields started becoming towns and now Aiea is an important suburb in Honolulu. The last sugar refinery here was closed in the late 90s. There are quite a few attractions in Aiea. Home of pearl ridge is one of the largest shopping centre in the state. It is a great place for shopping for both locals and tourists. It contains variety of shops, from jewellery to body piercing to clothing, restaurants, art galleries and spas. The mall has two separate sections which are connected by a monorail. Aiea loop trail is another popular attraction in this city. It is a 3-hour hike (with some short breaks in between). Reviews on internet suggests that it is quite enjoyable hike. You will find lots of beautiful scenery on the way. Halfway through the trail, you can see a world war 2 plane crashed in it. Aloha stadium is also a great attraction in Aiea city. It is the place where Hawai’i Bowl and pro bowl from national football league is hosted. Then there is also aloha stadium swap meet which is one of the favourite shopping spots for tourists in Aiea. It is a place where you can buy almost anything at a cheap price. Also, it is a nice way to get a morning walk in this Aiea. Aiea is a sparsely populated with a population density of 5463.5 people living in every square mile. The city is quite diverse in its racial makeup. About 58.31% of population here is of Asian race. Among other races, 16.25% are white, 5.47% are Hispanic or Latino race, 5.08% are pacific islanders, 0.85% African Americans, 0.14% are native Americans and about 18.59% from two or more races. An average household in this city earns about $71,155 and an average family earns $75,992 as per the census data. About 4.6% of the population and 3.4% of the families here live below the official poverty line.
