Mililani, Hawaii is located close to the center of the island of Oahu. The city is made up of two general places called Mililani Town and Mililani Mauka. Historically, Mililani was once used as plantation fields owned by Captain Cook however, in the 1960’s plans were developed to create it into a sort of satellite city for Oahu residents. Though most of Mililani is considered a large bedroom community, the two parts it consists of differ greatly.  Mililani Town is the older part. This is also the larger section of the city and is made up of not only homes but also most of the schools, restaurants, and commercial shopping areas.  The two parts of the city are separated by the H-2 freeway. The second part of Mililani, known as Mililani Mauka was not developed until almost thirty years later. This area is made up of mostly homes and almost no shopping areas.  It is a very well planned community and is thought to resemble many of the suburbs on the mainland. The very first residents did not move into the area until 1992. When visiting this city, one fun thing to do is to remember to check out Hawaii’s first Five Guys restaurant. It is easily located in the Mililani Town Center shopping area.
